Open Railway Training Courses
Our open courses give individuals direct access to the same expert-led, practical training that major rail operators trust us to deliver. Each course runs at our dedicated training centre in Derby, with small class sizes and hands-on sessions using real signalling equipment.
Whether you are preparing for IRSE licensing, need to recertify your SMTH, or want to build your signalling testing knowledge from Mod 5 (Test Assistant) through to Mod 1 (Tester in Charge), you will find a scheduled date below. Simply choose your course, check availability, and book your place.
Our Courses Are Built on Three Pillars

Signalling Design Courses
Our signalling design courses build the underpinning knowledge required to work confidently with signalling schemes, plans, and control tables. These courses are designed for engineers who need a thorough understanding of how signalling systems are conceived, designed, and documented to railway standards.

Testing (Mod 5 to Mod 1)
From the entry-level Mod 5 (Test Assistant) through to Mod 1 (Tester in Charge), our modular testing pathway covers the complete lifecycle of signalling testing knowledge. Each module builds on the last, giving you a structured route to developing the practical understanding and technical confidence required on site.

Maintenance
Our railway maintenance training courses, including SMTH recertification, ensure your skills and certifications remain current. Maintenance is the backbone of a safe, reliable railway, and our practical sessions are designed around the equipment and scenarios you will encounter in the field.
