Scheme Design for SSI and CBI Interlockings Course
- Overview of SSI system architecture
- Appreciation of SSI interlocking/ data functions
- SSI signal and points module functionality
- Allocating SSI TFMs to achieve required I/O needs of the system
- How SSI interfaces with axle counters, and the associated data complexity
- How SSI handles boundaries and fringes using Internal data link and TFM/ Relay interfaces, and associated data complexity
- SSI theoretical and practical capacity limitations
- Overview of equipment housings, power supplies and data link requirements
- Next generation CBI interlockings, comms networks and I/O devices - Compare and Contrast with SSI

Who Should Attend This Course?
The course will enable a schemes designer to specify signalling/ location area plan arrangements which are optimised for the application of SSI or CBI technology.
Course Content and Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the successful delegate will be able to:
- Allocate Trackside Functional Module inputs and outputs as required by a scheme
- Assess the likely case count/ REB rack requirement
- Choose SSI interlocking boundaries to minimise complexity
- Choose SSI to RRI fringes to minimise complexity
- Assess the usable residual "spare" capacity of an existing SSI system
Entry
Requirements
The delegate should be an experienced schemes designer, also with a good knowledge of conventional relay control circuitry.
