We are extremely proud and honoured to announce that our Managing Director, Andy Knight became the 98th President of the Institution of Signal Engineers on 21st April 2022.

As a dedicated Signal Engineer for the last 40 years Andy is delighted to be awarded such an accolade in his profession. Andy followed his father into the railway industry starting at the age of 17 as a trainee technician at Arpley Depot in Warrington. Always hungry to learn more from both colleagues and formal training courses, as his career progressed, he developed a keen interest in developing and mentoring trainee engineers, which led him to take on training roles within BR, rising to become Chief Instructor for the Crewe S & T Training Centre. Following privatisation he was part of the buyout team which took over all of the English BR training centres before joining Signet Solutions as Operations Director in 2001. He was appointed Managing Director in 2003. Andy has been involved with the IRSE for more than 30 years and Signet has been a generous supporter of the Institution and its education aims for over two decades, establishing the IRSE Signet Award in 2016.

Andy's focus for his presidential year will be 'Shaping the Future' and this will be reflected throughout his technical visits and designated influential speakers.

He is also attending a technical visit hosted by Irish Rail in Dublin in May and the bi-annual Convention during this year will be in Glasgow 12th - 16th September 2022.

His global visits to IRSE sections will include Malaysia, South Africa and Indonesia and Australia.

We, at Signet Solutions, would like to wish Andy every success for the forthcoming year and look forward to following his adventures.
